Chiquita

Banana Sun

In 2017 all of North America was talking about "The Great American Eclipse"

visible across the United States for the first time in a century.

We noticed the partial eclipse looked a lot like a banana.

And so the Chiquita Banana Sun cameth, and it tooketh away the hearts of all Americans,

along with a gold Andy award in the idea category.

TEASER

After our orrery teaser, we released a space soundtrack of theremin music played using bananas.

We ran a full-page ad in The New York Times to educate people about the banana sun.

This TV commercial warned people not to look directly at the banana sun.

And we created thebananasun.com, which had a very helpful FAQ section.

We made eclipse-safe glasses that were shaped like Chiquita bananas.

Martin Scorcese happened to be walking around the streets of New York and got himself a pair.

We sent the glasses and banana space neckties to meteorologists on the path of the eclipse.

And the night before the eclipse, we dropped a 50' long glowing banana in NYC that became

an impromptu gathering place for strangers to gather and worship the banana sun.

To count down the eclipse, we partnered with Funny or Die to create an hour-long Facebook Live comedy show with a grand finale of dancing bananas.

The Banana Sun Cometh was the most successful campaign involving fruit and outer space ever.
